To celebrate Singapore's 49th birthday, the Migrant Workers' Centre went to the streets along Little India and Geylang to thank and bring out the spirit and pride of nation building from migrant workers.
Migrant workers make up a large part of Singapore's workforce; particularly in the construction, marine and shipping, manufacturing and cleaning industries. These are often overlooked sectors where workers toil day and night, under extreme weather and sometimes hazardous and unfavourable work conditions to contribute to our nation's progressive economy and growth.
These are the hands, minds and hearts that build our homes, offices, the stunning modern Singapore landscape and even the grounds we walk on, not to mention many other areas that sometimes go unnoticed.
In line with the 2014 National Day theme - 'Our People, Our Home' - let us make our fellow migrant guests feel right at home, and to let them know they are an integral part of our dynamic workforce. To appreciate their unique ethnicities and different backgrounds, and to work towards a common goal, our hearts beating as one.
We hope you enjoy the photos as much as we had a great time interacting with these unsung heroes of Singapore who enthusiastically allowed us to capture them in this tapestry of national pride.
