THANK U FOR MAKING INTERNATIONAL MIGRANTS DAY 2014 A GREAT SUCCESS!
We have entered into the Singapore Book of Records for the Largest Heart Formation!
What began as an annual event to commemorate the migrant workforce in Singapore has culminated into one that touched the hearts of both the migrant and local community.
"Appreciating U – Our Migrant Workers, Migrant Workers’ Centre International Migrants Day (IMD) 2014" is the sixth IMD celebration the Centre has organized since 2009. It is also the first time such an event has been held in the heartland district with a clear message of community engagement and social integration.
Indeed, the event ticked all boxes when it came to social interaction and bonding. Groups of migrant workers who came from as far as Jurong and the nearby Simpang Dormitories, as well as Yishun residents, comprising of families, friends and neighbours, the young and elderly; congregating as one, proved that differences did not matter when it came to having a good time.
The event - graced by Minister for Manpower, Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, who wrote his Thank-U message to our migrant workers as a concluding piece to form the Largest Heart Formation - resulted in a record-breaking entry into the Singapore Book of Records.
Mr Tan’s message read, “Thank you all for playing an important part in so many areas of our lives. A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL!”
It was a simple message, but it rang loud and clear to our migrant friends that Singaporeans appreciate and recognise all the sweat and tears that have gone into building a vibrant and beautiful Singapore.
